Some people are just cool.

I can't quite pinpoint why, but I've been staring at this picture for a couple of days. It was one of those things where, upon seeing it, I was immediately overcome with a combination of admiration and envy that has kept me returning to look at it (just one more time...). This girl clearly has "it"- that elusive quality very few people possess, where they get out of bed in the morning and look cool without having to try like the rest of us mere mortals.

Thanks to Yvan over at The Face Hunter who so graciously allowed me to use this fab picture. If you haven't made your way over to his blog, I suggest you do so immediately.

Crazy for Mod

Lately I've had all kinds of mod urges: meaning, I want to dress all mod, all the time. Even though it's summer, I am constantly resisting the urge to don my flat black boots. I'm unsure exactly what prompted this- was it Balenciaga's fall collection or Sienna Miller's turn as Edie Sedgwick, or maybe a bit of both?

Balenciaga (I know, I know, you've seen this picture ten million times)

Chanel again

Here are a couple of quintessential mod girl Edie Sedgwick

And here's the perfectly perfect Sienna as Edie:

This one was from her Vogue shoot. Looking incredible, as per usual.

I suddenly want to chop off all of my hair...must. resist.urge.

Video: Behind the Scenes at Kate Hudson's Vogue Photo Shoot

This video actually made me quite excited for July's Vogue, which features Kate Hudson in a Balenciaga-heavy photo shoot photographed by Mario Testino.

Audrey Tatou is Cute

My new favorite little fashion pixie is Audrey Tatou- she's got that Audrey Hepburn vibe with an extra shot of quirkiness that makes her oh so adorable.

Just too cute.

I Know this is a Little Late, But...

Hooray for an awards ceremony where the attendees actually know how to dress. A few of my favorites from the 2006 CFDA Awards:

Natalia Vodianova in Calvin Klein with the night's big winner, Francisco Costa

Love love love this look

Karl Lagerfeld and Lindsay Lohan. Tres jolie, non?

Georgina Chapman and Karen Craig of Marchesa, in their own designs. I'm drooling over that gorgeous little black dress.

I don't know who you are, but damn you look good.

Erin Wassan and Gemma Ward

Jamie Lynn Seigler looks stunning in Monique Lhuillier.

And then there was Jessica "Look at my tits! Oh, and did you see my ass?" Simpson in Michael Kors:

Just wrong on so many levels, and I'm not even going to discuss the hair.

The Best Shoe Boutique in Chicago

I just had to give a shoutout to Alternatives Shoes in Chicago. I can say with confidence that this is THE place to buy unique high quality Italian shoes. Located on Rush Street (2 doors down from the greatest Starbucks in Chicago), I happened to wander in there one day and immediately fell in love with and bought this pair of sandals by a brand called Emozioni:

Alternatives also enjoys a loyal customer base due to its unparalleled customer service- the people who work there are actually nice and friendly. No snobbiness whatsoever, despite the fact that they were the only Chicago shoe store to be mentioned in Italian Vogue's shoe issue. If you are in the Chicago area be sure to stop in- you'll be glad you did.

Platforms Never Should Have Gone Away

The platform trend has spawned many skeptics and naysayers (ie Manolo). This is not unwarranted, as the very word "platform" conjures oh so scary images of lime green shag carpeting, massive bellbottoms and yikes! disco. However, the latest incarnation definitely does not resemble your parents' platforms. Scaled down and modernized, they really can be quite lovely. Not to mention the wonders they do for the appearance of one's legs, while allowing for much better balance than the strappy stiletto. This is one trend I am embracing with gusto.

Be Gentle- I'm New!

This post is my first stab at the current rage that is blogging (or in my case "flogging," as this is a fashion blog). Why create a fashion blog, you might ask. Well, I am what one would call something of a fashion enthusiast, and the more I read others' blogs, the more itchy I became to parlay my (relatively irrelevent) ideas into a blog of my own. I would love any comments/insight you feel like providing. And I will leave you with something beautiful:
